Uganda – Rukungiri
About this project
Come and build a proper school for the region’s disabled children. Show these kids what they are really worth.
Projects by team for 2016:
Team 3, 4 and 5: Kitazigurukwa School, partners: The Diocese of North Kigezi
Being born with a disability in Uganda means life as a second class citizen. Children are often shunned by their families and don’t get a proper education. However, the Church in the Rukungiri region has a totally different message; “Every child is a blessing from God.”
Help us to continue building safe, secure classrooms and dormitories at Kitazigurukwa School for the region’s children with disabilities and show these kids what they are really worth! Find out more by clicking the ‘Booking and Dates’ tab.
Team 6: Partnering with the Chilli Children Trust and the Mother’s Union
Working alongside the wonderful Evas and Chilli Children Project, who identify and help orphans and children with life-limiting disabilities, this trip suits those looking to build relationships rather than buildings. We’d also like volunteers for this trip who would be willing to provide some training – this could be dressmaking, knitting, crochet or crafts. In return, the girls will teach you some traditional African crafts such as bead-making and basket weaving. Find out more.
Team 7 – Mission4Water
For three years now, Mission Direct have been receiving volunteers to work alongside NGO Mission4Water so that more people can enjoy the wonderful gift of clean and safe water. In November, our team will be working with Mission4Water to build a well in the local community, which will transform lives. Find out more.
Every afternoon, each team will visit local projects that are making a big difference – lending a hand or just making friends. Among the highlights:
Chilli Children Trust
Supporting and empowering disabled children. Prepare for:
- Visit an income-generating chilli programme
- Interact with children at a life skills clinic
