Mission Direct - Volunteers helping the world's poor

What you'll be doing

There are two sides to Zambia’s capital Lusaka; one half of the city was planned and built with at least some basic infrastructure and amenities. But there is the other side: people have settled on land left empty around the city. They have formed shanty towns - these are communities with no schools, clinics, water or sanitation. They have settled uninvited and are all but ignored.

Nobody deserves to be invisible. Come and build some basic amenities for these people. You will be helping with basic construction and decoration tasks. You don’t need to be a skilled craftsman; just come ready to serve others. Help us to put a whole town on the map.

Fresh starts everywhere…

All About Mission Direct

Mission Direct gives ordinary people the chance to do extraordinary things around the world. In two weeks you will change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. You can help to build a house, classroom or clinic. We discover people and groups doing remarkable things in their own countries. Then we provide them the people and resources that they need. We do this by enabling people like you, with two or more weeks to join our life-altering trips.

Restoring the gift of childhood

A proper childhood is a precious commodity. It is one that is cruelly denied to tens of thousands of children in Zambia. Due to poverty and AIDS, they are denied such basics as food, shelter and education. Most tragically, many children are even denied a loving family and left abandoned as street children.

With Mission Direct you can help to give some of these things back to Zambia’s children. You will be working on school building projects for primary school children from one of Zambia’s poorest townships, who would otherwise be denied any education at all. This is the first step out of poverty for these children and their families.
