Long term Mission Direct supporter and trustee Jon Cobb has been accepted on the Virgin London Marathon this year. Jon will be running to raise money for the Nest of Love school in The Dominican Republic.
This will be Jon’s fifth marathon, and what he calls ‘one last attempt’ to complete the 26 miles and 385 yards in under four hours. Each successive run has shaved crucial minutes of his best time, with the most recent in November bringing the time down to 4 hours and 13 minutes.
“I think this will be my last make-or-break attempt to reach the four hour barrier.” said Jon “Now that I’m getting a bit older I don’t want to strain myself beyond what I can endure”
Along with his colleague Andy Smart, Jon has been heavily involved in funding the construction of Nest of Love, a primary school for children who are either homeless or newly re-housed in The DR. “I’ve been to the DR four times now, and I feel like my life is bound up in the lives of these communities.” he added.
Jon is already hard at work training for the big day, April 17th. The current regime is two ‘lengthy’ runs and two trips to the gym each week, though he promises that this will step up nearer the date.

Mission Direct gives ordinary people the chance to do extraordinary things around the world. In two weeks you will change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. You can help to build a house, classroom or clinic. We discover people and groups doing remarkable things in their own countries. Then we provide them the people and resources that they need. We do this by enabling people like you, with two or more weeks to join our life-altering trips.
