Mission Direct is involved with a number of medical projects in and around Rukungiri in the South West of Uganda. You will join one of these projects on an individually-tailored 8 day clinical placement, either on your own or in a team.
You will pass on your training either with hands on work, or by formal or informal teaching and instruction. Don’t worry, this occurs naturally as you work, and is far less daunting than it sounds! There will also be opportunities to observe a variety of different medically-based projects that are taking place around Rukungiri.
Partner projectsWe have a number of key projects in the area, affording you a wide range of opportunities for your placement. These include:
Karoli Lwanga Hospital – A general mission hospital covering a wide range of units including medical, surgical, maternity, dental, physiotherapy, HIV/AIDS and laboratory services.
Rugarama Health Centre – A “GP style” health centre providing care with a daily clinic, maternity unit and medical ward.
Other specialist projects include: Healthcare teaching to local schools and colleges, helping families with disabled children, physiotherapy and occupational therapy work. Tell us what you want to do with your skills and we will work hard to find the best fit possible.

At the end of your stay, you will join the other Medical Missioners on a grand riverboat safari to unwind after a job well done. Watch out for the usual lions, tigers, hippos and giraffes.
Remember that Uganda is on the equator. Stand one foot north and one foot south of the exact line, and discover which way water travels down the plug hole!
