Immerse YourselfThe African Experience trip is designed for people who want to immerse themselves in the authentic Africa. When you join one of our trips you will go far from the usual landmarks and amenities.
An African Experience trip is for you if you like the idea of staying with a host family, sharing the local food with them and sitting around a stove or fire sharing stories in the warm African night air. You may get to sleep in a mud hut. You will certainly see sunsets and star-spangled night skies unlike any you have experienced before!
With few distractions you will be spending more time at work on the building project - we want to make the very most of your time. However the rewards will be even greater than usual: as well as the tranquillity of being many miles from city life, you will be living and working closely with local people and experiencing their life from the inside.
Most importantly you will be making a personal impact on some of the neediest people in the world.
Project 1
We are working with the mission organisation YWAM to build a school for children in an ‘Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camp. These are children and families whose lives have been torn apart by the brutal guerrilla warfare of the Lord’s Resistance Army over the few years.
The aim is to reduce children’s trauma and stress. As well as a vital education, the school will offer opportunities for them to see life through new eyes, through counselling, fun, sport and education. Read more.
Project 2

We will be building a primary school building for the village of Ndiadzo, on the Mozambique border. It will offer room to teach the 6-700 pupils currently being taught outdoors or in makeshift huts. The village want permanent school buildings and have done their best, baking local bricks. But they have no money to buy cement and steel for a permanent structure. We will be spending most of our time hard at work on the building site, to provide them a school building as quickly as possible. When it is finished the local church will provide teachers. Project 3
The Muslim Yawo people live in the mountainous region to the East of Lake Malawi. They are a marginalised race, living miles from any tarmac roads or any proper development. They have been truly left behind. You will be helping to build the first of a series of primary schools for the Yawo people. They are desperate for their children to be educated, knowing that even a basic education can transform the quality of their lives. Read More
